Frequently asked questions

How long will my parking lot be closed while it’s being striped?

We complete the job at the most convenient time for our clients, so we don’t disrupt customers or employees. Our traffic paints dry within minutes, and we ensure the stripes are ready for traffic before leaving your property.

How often should i restripe my parking lot?

Typically, you want to restripe at least every 18-24 months. Unfortunately, one of the factors that determines the longevity of your parking lot lines is out of your control. Iowa’s extreme weather (both heat and snow) can prematurely age striping.

Snow removal is the leading cause for fading of parking lot markings. During snow plowing, the blade on the plow scraps off the pavement markings. Also, the use of de-icers contributes to fading markings. The salt tends to erode the pavement along with its marking.

For best results, we recommend restriping annually. After the last snow of the year has gone, set up an appointment with Kings Striping to have your parking lot restriped.

What kind of paint is used for striping?

Kings Striping uses both solvent-based and water-based traffic paints from Diamond Vogel. After inspecting your parking lot, we’ll determine which option is best for your property. Both types offer long-lasting durability and brightness. We typically use solvent-based paint on concrete lots for better adhesion.

Is there a warranty for my parking lot striping?

Line Striping Warranty
We warranty our lines against coming loose from the
surface or flaking off for a period of one year from the date of installation.

Note: This warranty can only be applied to asphalt surfaces. For concrete surfaces, this warranty can only apply to concrete surfaces that are 2 years old or older, the surface has been pressure washed, and the paint has been applied in temperatures 80 degrees or hotter. Concrete surfaces less than 2 years old have surfaces that have been sealed with a curing compound that eventually wears off. Paint sprayed on those surfaces are non-porous.

Crack-sealing Warranty
We warranty against any crack-fill coming loose from the surface of the asphalt for a period of one year from the date of installation.  If the crack-fill material comes loose from the surface, we will apply new material free of charge. Also, subsequent crack-filling of the cracks filled will be discounted.

Note: Unfortunately, no company can warranty against the reoccurrence of a crack that has been sealed with rubberized hot tar. Reoccurring cracks cannot be avoided due to a number of reasons:  1) Ground movements; 2) insufficient base support for the asphalt; and 3) the fact that crack widths get larger and smaller relative to temperature extremes ( -20 to 130 degrees). These temperature changes cause the asphalt on either side to expand and contract, which makes the crack wider when it’s cold and smaller when it’s hot.

Seal-coating Warranty
The sealer manufacturer warranties the product itself. We warranty against sealer that has come loose from the surface of the asphalt for a period of one year from the date of installation. Also, we warranty against irregular, unexpected wear of the sealer. If the sealer comes loose from the surface or wears in a way that we deem irregular, we will re-seal these areas free of charge.

Note: Some areas will naturally be worn faster than others due to greater use. Also, wear is affected by weather, extreme temperatures, salt exposure, snow plowing, etc. All mix designs are noted on material tickets and can be viewed at any time by the customer.

Is payment required up front?

No downpayment is required!  Payment is not due until 30 days after the project is successfully completed.
